LOOK WhAt I CAn Do!

Monday Night  we had our first Cricuteer Class at the LBH.  Miss Trisha Rice gave us some very good instruction on how to cut vinyl, use transfer tape and make our templates for Glass Etching.  Here are the jars Miss Tracy and I did. Mine is the one with the CaNdY because I stopped at the market this morning so I can have some colorful pics.

We used the Vinyl contact sheets from Prove Craft.  Made a "kiss" cut to make our template.  (We figured that we could use the rest of our picture as a mask and use our new Shimmerz since we use the negative parts for the etching template.)

After removing the picture leaving the negative parts, we covered negative area with transfer contact paper so that the vinyl backing can be removed without disrupting the picture elements.
Then cut around picture with an extra 1 inch border which will help protect surrounding glass when applying the etch medium.

Center your image on area to be etched.

Burnish all areas of vinyl to ensure clean line from etching.

Carefully remove transfer paper.

Using a Popsicle stick we applied a thick layer of etching medium to exposed area of glass within image. Let set 5-7 minutes.

After about 5-7 minutes we removed etching medium and placed back in jar.  Washed off the remaining etching medium and removed vinyl template. It was simple and the results were perfect.

I inked my haunted house image with Pitch Black alcohol ink. I haven't inked my Jack-O-Lantern yet.  I want to test a few colors beforehand.  Tracy etched the top of her jar with a spiderweb.

For more instruction on the Cricut, check back next month for another Cricuteer Class.  If you would like to take a Cricut Basics class, go to Trisha's Blog here.

Now to see if my Candy Corn will  last the week, I still have two teens at home and we all love the stuff.

Happy Crafting.
